Historical Photos
Some of our photos of the day are historical photos. Here are a few you might have already seen on this page, or that might show on a future date.
Charley Meeks, Cowboy
As far as we know, not a lot is known about the cowboy shown in this photo except for his name, Charley Meeks. The photo was taken in 1886 in Custer County, Nebraska by photographer Solomon Butcher.
In 1880 Butcher had moved to Custer County, and shortly afterwards set out to make a photographic history of the county. The photo of cowboy Charley Meeks became one of his better known photos.
Theodore Roosevelt, c1910
Theodore Roosevelt Jr. (1858 – 1919) is probably most famous for being the 26th president of the United States. However, he was also an outdoorsman and strong conservationist.
While president, Roosevelt established numerous national parks and forests. He is one of the four American presidents whose face is carved into Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of Keystone, South Dakota. (The other presidents on Mount Rushmore are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln.)
About Our Cowboy Photos Of The Day
Here at CowboyWay.com we take a lot of photos. Creating this cowboy "Photo Of The Day" page is just one way we have of showing them.
Our "photo of the day" photos are chosen completely at random. Many of the photos already appear somewhere on the CowboyWay.com website, but others are showing here for the first time. Some of them are recent, some are older.
The photos feature different subjects that interest cowboys, cowgirls, or horse lovers. The photos range from rodeo to ranch rodeos, show jumping, horses, cattle, and more. They're shown in an entirely random order.
We have personally taken most of the "photo of the day" photos. However, we have also chosen photos from the public domain that we thought were interesting and hope you will, too.
We hope you enjoy our photo of the day!
