Description
Buckskin Sabino (as per papers)
14 yrs old (born 2009)
15.3 hh (sticked)
UTD on Trimming, Coggins, Vaccinations
Reason for Sale – her current rider is getting into 3-Day Eventing and is looking for a horse more suited to that purpose.
The Good
– Iris is double registered and we have both sets of papers in hand. She is gaited and is incredibly smooth. She is supposed to be hypoallergenic, but she does not have the Curly coat and we have never tested it out.
– She has been my 13 year old daughter’s main mount for the past 4 years. She’s been in every kind of event imaginable: 4-H events, gymkhanas, parades, costume parties, low level jumping lessons, trail rides, mounted shooting clinics, obstacle courses, bareback riding with doubling frequently and many other shenanigans.
– She saddles and bridles easily, lowering her head on command. Rides english and western. She can pony other horses/ponies, and can be ponied herself.
– She is easy to catch, trailers, ties, stands for the farrier (is barefoot), deworms and takes needles easily, is not picky about supplements and is an easy keeper. She is not ear, head, body or foot shy.
– She has had two foals in the past before our ownership, and is a kind and gentle herd mate. She is middle of the pack and is not a trouble maker.
The Bad
I’m going to be as honest a possible because I want her to go to the right home. Iris is NOT a horse for a beginner equestrian or young child and I will not be selling her to someone I believe is such. Although she’s had a ton of exposure to new things, she can be unpredictable in new environments and has a spooky streak. She does not like to be alone, but isn’t a nut case. She paws when alone but does not dig to China.
The Ugly
– She has heaves when exposed to dusty hay, but can also suffer from some spring allergies. A course of Dexamethazone clears it right up.
– She has a fatty lump on her belly that she aquired prior to us purchasing her (my vet has confirmed it is NOT a hernia). It is not in the way of any saddle rigging, it does not weep or cause pain, and flies don’t bother with it.
– She has a cosmetic scar on the front of her left hock which she obtained prior to us owning her. It doesn’t bother her.
Iris is a cool horse and deserves a patient rider or possibly a broodmare life as she will throw great colored babies. If after reading this ad, you think you might be a fit for her, please message me. She will NOT be offered as first come first serve.
