Pony saddles are built on a saddle tree to fit a pony instead of a horse.
Pony saddles commonly have stirrups that are called "hooded stirrups," which are also called "tapaderos" (or "taps"). This type of stirrup has a hood over the front of the stirrup. While in adult saddles hooded stirrups are typically used for protection against cacti, thorns, and/or weather, on a pony saddle their main purpose is to help prevent a child's foot from accidentally going through a stirrup.
