Currier and Ives Art Prints

"Currier and Ives" was a printmaking company in New York City. The partners were Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888) and James Ives (1824-1895), and the two men cheerfully described their business as "Publishers of Cheap and Popular Pictures." The company rose to prominence specializing in prints that represented life in America, and that were affordable to the American middle class. Currier and Ives prints were some of the most popular and distinctively American pieces of art in the 19th century. The company officially closed in 1907, but the artwork they produced is still highly popular today.
